Overview

The Hill-Murray track and field program is about leadership, commitment, responsibility, and hard work. The Hill-Murray track and field coaching staff is dedicated to developing these traits in all of our athletes. Track and field is a great character building opportunity. Take advantage of this opportunity and join the Pioneer track and field team.

The program is dedicated to academic and athletic excellence. Our goal is to provide you with every opportunity to reach your potential and to offer a positive experience for each and every Pioneer track and field athlete.

Track and Field is a spring sport open to any boy or girl in grades 7-12. The Hill-Murray track and field team does not have tryouts and will not cut anyone. We have a full Varsity and JV schedule to provide all athletes an opportunity to participate.

The team competes in the rugged Classic Suburban Conference that includes Henry Sibley, North St. Paul, Mahtomedi, Richfield, Simley, South St. Paul, Tartan, and St. Thomas Academy. The Pioneers also compete in Section 4AA that includes Cretin-Derham Hall, Mahtomedi, North St. Paul, Roseville, St. Paul Arlington, St. Paul Como, St. Paul Highland, In 2007, the Pioneers had 8 All-Conference athletes and 12 All-Conference Honorable Mention athletes in the Classic Suburban Conference Championships. Additionally, the Pioneers were represented at the MSHSL State Meet in 2007 for the 26th time when senior BJ Otto qualified in the Long Jump, Triple Jump, and 200 Meter Dash, junior Peter McKeown qualified in the 110 Meter High Hurdles and 300 Meter Intermediate Hurdles, and senior Katie Lawler qualified in the 200 Meter Dash. Otto brought home Hill-Murray’s sixth and seventh individual track and field state championships, winning the class AA Long Jump and Triple Jump along with a runner up finish in the 200 Meter Dash. The boys team also finished in 6th place at the MSHSL State Championships. During the season, which begins on March 10, 2008, the team will practice every day after school. In 2007, the team consisted of 130 Hill-Murray students, 68 boys and 62 girls. The 2007 team returns several quality athletes, which will help the team be very competitive in the season ahead. New athletes are encouraged to join the Pioneer team.

The teams are coached by head coach Bill Roll, who is in his 8th year of coaching track and field at Hill-Murray.
