Christian Service Learning

“Christian Service Learning” is a class in which students serve the community during the school day.  In this class students are placed in service settings as diverse as elementary schools, hospice care centers, homeless shelters, transitional living centers, food shelves, and nursing homes.  The emphasis in this class is on serving individuals in need, on developing relationships with people who are suffering, and on imparting the knowledge and understanding gained from exposure to people in these diverse service settings to the greater Hill-Murray School community.

The guiding principles of “Christian Service Learning” are to be found Catholic Social Teaching.  Catholic Social Teaching asks us to engage, serve, and respect people in need, regardless of if this need is economic, social, medical, or situational.  Therefore, students enrolled in “Christian Service Learning” will be not only studying Catholic Social Teaching, but will also be living it.

“Christian Service Learning” is a semester class open to juniors and seniors.  This class cannot be used for a Religious Studies elective, at this time.  Please see the instructor for this class,
Timothy Cooper, if you have any questions about “Christian Service Learning.”
